“Livin’ Large in the Lone Star State”

We’re back. The annual pilgrimage of Mothers (and sons of Mothers) has arrived in Texas. We have a new rig, plenty of cool cars and lots of enthusiasm.

As I soon discovered, some of us have way too much enthusiasm. I found evidence of this laying on the floor of the trailer.

And some say there’s a gas shortage. I knew there was a downside to these shows. It makes me miss the warm neon glow and eclectic clutter of my office.

Not to mention all the charming, kindhearted people back in Southern California that make my job so enjoyable.
Enough about work, lets talk about Texas.

Parked in the Mothers booth in Arlington is none other than the 1971 Chevelle from the “Overhaulin’” show on The Learning Channel.

Also sharing our booth is another car from TLC, this 1967 Ford Shelby Mustang Fastback G.T. 500E featured on one of the “Rides” episodes. Owned by Collins Edwards and built by Unique Performance, it features an aluminum supercharged 427 engine, TKO 5 speed, high performance suspension, and develops 730 horsepower and 536 torque foot lbs on pump gasoline.

Those with a discerning eye may have noticed that Mothers has some involvement with both
TLC's “Overhaulin’” and “
Rides” series.

Here's a little piece of top secret information: rumor has it that the show’s producers may be lurking about on this year’s Power Tour.
So long haulers be on your best behavior. Please refrain from the usual Indian rubs, pink bellies and wet willies that have become so popular at these shows as of late.

For all you Mopar lovers, today’s Power Tour pics include a beautiful 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. It sports a 542 c.i.d. engine with a billet supercharger from The Blower Shop.

Here’s a little bit of classic Chevy. A 1955 Bel Air.

Two roadsters, different eras.

What Power Tour would be complete without the mandatory rust-o-rods?

A Buick Grand National goes for a spin on the dyno.

Another shift in the hot rod time continuum a modern hot rod Ford Lightning and classic Chevy truck.

Arlington must be the capital of nasty, high performance Mustang fastbacks. This ’66 has a 4.6 liter modular SVT Cobra engine and a Kenne Bell supercharger.

Nicely finished interior as well.

That’s a wrap. Since today is the Power Tour kick-off, there are no on-the-road pics. That all changes tomorrow a.m. Once we get moving, there should be plenty of action photography.
Until tomorrow,

Ken Holland
