Power Tour 2007
Monday, June 7
Tulsa, OK to Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, Springfield, MO

“Oil Field Workers Pants Explode. International Terrorist Suspected.”

Did you see the front page of USA Today? It’s getting so a man can’t feel safe in his own pants.

From the 11th floor of the Tulsa Hilton, my room overlooks a Wal-Mart Supercenter. They say you’re supposed to tip extra at the front desk for a room with a good view. Obviously, I didn’t tip.

The water seems to have a hard time getting all the way up to the 11th floor. My guess is the water makes it about half way up, says “the heck with it,” and then heads back down the way it came.

eBay Motors signed on as a major sponsor of the 2004 Power Tour. That got them premium placement on the Power Tour bus. We picked up the “wax and polish” sponsorship, which got prominent placement on the undercarriage of the bus.

Ted Dzus’ lead sled leaves our Dodge Dart in the dust.

It looks mean coming and going.

The world’s largest McDonalds. It stretches from one side of the highway to the other.

Your Power Tour guide, Ken Holland. On the right, some clown we met on the road.

Jerky, the perfect traveling companion. This particular type is buffalo.

About the time I finish my last chaw of bison, we pull into Springfield, Missouri.

World’s lowest Pro-Street Nova.

When writing, exclamation points are useful, but thunderbolts really drive the message home.

Hot Rod Magazine publisher Ira Gabriel shows off their Cheap Street Chevelle sweepstakes car to the “Hot Rod TV” production crew.

“Hot Rod TV” is now on The Outdoor Channel, scheduled right between “Bow Hunting U.S.A.” and “Squirrel Rifles of the American Frontier.”

Some really nice rides.

“Hot Rod TV” uses a cherry-picker to videotape the start of duck hunting season for the Outdoor Channel.

This Chevrolet SSR has a lot of muscle car coursing through its veins. A 300 horsepower V8, rear-wheel drive, but it’s not just another pretty face. This SSR boasts a number of custom extras: paint and graphics, shaved door handles, seats and dash, and a full entertainment system in the bed.

Springfield is home to Eric S., one of the more talented young car designers. He even put fins on the car. Hot rodding is in his blood.

Tomorrow we head out to St. Louis, hallowed home of Forrest Tosie, Mothers VP of sales for the East. You’ll be spending quite a bit of quality time with Forrest, he’s doing the coverage for the second half of the Power Tour.

Until tomorrow,

Ken Holland
