“What 4H Really Means”

By the time the
sleepy heads got moving, the sun was high, as was the temperature and humidity. What was an empty lot yesterday, was full today.

It’s hard to
pick a favorite amongst so many, but my favorites lean towards big motors
and low production versions.

On a good day, even I can figure out what “1 of One” means.

Every genre of car
guy is represented on the Power Tour. You want it in the weeds? Done.

Nice paint
in coral or turquoise? No problem.

Or even both at the same time? It can be
done or more correctly, probably has been already.

I’ve never been a fan of yellow and
purple together, but you have to admit it works on this ’56 Chevy.

Way back in the
good ol’ days (those would be the 1980s), Carroll Shelby teamed with Chrysler to make some killer cars in an era of
automotive boredom. Take the GLH-S, for
example.
With lots of boost on that 2.2L, it made for blazing speed with torque steer to match. This jewel is one of only 500
made.

It seems like every year, some lucky folks choose the Power Tour as their honeymoon. This couple had
a few minutes to kill between their wedding
and the reception, so they stopped at the Tour for a quickie.
A quick look around, that is.
May
they have many happy years together.

As the temps climbed, our desire for rest, A/C and food
increased exponentially. The temp was the same as the humidity, I think,

so I wimped-out and headed for the hotel, which is more than some others could do.
Anything to pay for that next tank of gas. This
Chevy Nova Custom hatchback has an optional pop-up camping tent,
and this one’s certainly a rare survivor.

On the way out, we spied a cool “rat” pickup that will deserve a better look on a cooler day,

(love that bamboo grille),

and what purports to be the world’s
fastest lawnmower.
80.792 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats? Wow! I could really save some time with that puppy.

As the sometime weather prognosticator for the Power Tour, I had many folks come and ask for a weather forecast. My answer today was like
math:
2 Hot plus 2 Humid equals 4H, which only makes sense when you’re standing next to the Milking Parlor.

After cooling down, we headed back to the riverfront for some more great local food. Ken wanted to try the wheat beer at our restaurant of
choice,
but was told it wouldn’t be ready for 10 days. Trust me, he’ll be happier when the glass grows a little larger, too. Shane won a $1 bet over
eating part of
the cedar plank from the salmon he had for dinner. It’s easy to mess with kids when money is at stake.

Back out along the riverfront, we found Shane some stylin’ headwear to really stand out in the Power Tour crowd.

Trust me, it’s the start of a trend. You’d better get in early, while you
can.
Our first driver’s meeting is at 8:30 tomorrow morning, before we head for Springfield, Missouri. Hot cars, hot weather and
Shane’s hot hats.
The Power Tour has it all. Come back tomorrow and see what we’ve found.
Your humble and
obedient servant,
Forrest Tosie
