Power Tour 2007
Sunday, June 4
Orlando, FL to Gainesville Raceway, Gainesville, FL

“A Very Special Visit”

Orlando can be rather, well, shall we say, humid in the summertime. Even at 8 a.m., the humidity hangs in the air.

With our ’67 El Camino leading the way, Tourers filed in for the driver’s meeting before heading off to Gainesville. With gas being expensive, we’re always looking for ways to save gas. I’m driving a car that gets 29 miles per gallon Not to be outdone, Gary found a way to use no gas.

Some folks can’t stand to be one-upped.

Finally, with the lot full

the meeting started with the usual instructions:

Don’t speed...

Follow all traffic laws...

Don’t pass the lead van...

Help your fellow Tourers...

yada yada yada.

For Long Haul veterans who had heard the instructions before, time could be spent talking to new friends

or taking pictures of cool cars.

As Tourers left the lot, one could see everything from mild

to wild.

You can tell some cars belong,

while others might not.

The great thing about the Power Tour is, all are welcome. Even if you may not understand why.

When was the last time you saw a Plum Crazy Challenger running on the street?

Finally, we were on the road. It’s always satisfying to see a stop in your mirror,

and it’s even better if you’re not the last one in line.

We stopped in for brunch at SuperChips, and discovered exact change was necessary to leave Sanford.

Can you spare a quarter? Exact change only, please.

After twists and turns galore (thank you Lotus, for really carving those corners), we arrived at Gainesville Raceway. Tourers lined-up for some fun runs down the quarter-mile.

Some believe in the old adage, “Smoke ’em if you got ’em”.

With a quick glance at the crowd,

I headed up on stage. Joe gave me a tough time about our Foose/Mothers detail bags we gave away,

repeatedly calling it a guy purse.

Does that look like a purse, or a manly man’s detail bag to you?

Repeated requests resulted in my giving a class in, “How to get out of an Elise in six easy steps.” See for yourself:

One...

Two...

Three...

Four...

Five...

and Six...Ta daa!

After a quick, delicious meal at Texas Roadhouse, we returned to the hotel. Ken was fortunate enough to have a gift waiting at his door.

A close review of the note told it all:

I’m jealous of his new secret admirer.

Tomorrow morning we leave Florida for the land of peanuts, also known as Georgia.

Perry, here we come. I hope you’ll be here, too.

Your humble and obedient servant,

Forrest Tosie
