“Wellcome to Alabama!”
Randy Newman sang, “I Love LA,” and after today we have to agree. Around here, folks call Lower Alabama, LA. And, we love it!

What’s not to love? We were “wellcomed” with open arms

and the crowd on the route made it a point to make us feel like one of the family.

In the face of mind-numbing traffic, the likes most of the small towns along the route had probably never seen,

the locals kept their smiley faces on.
Isn’t it great to be loved?

We met folks moving up in the world

(literally), and saw great bargains for those who take the trouble to shop carefully.

It’s hard to find good stuff. But we did, just for you.

Sometimes, I’m betting, the stuff you find may not be the stuff you should have. In that case, just call your friends at Jail Busters.

We even saw a sign offering a free t-shirt with every bail bond written.
Now that’s marketing!

Even in Allabama, it helps to remember all good things must come to an end. When it’s our time to go, we hope we can still be Spry.

Allabama must be one of the most progressive states when it comes to law enforcement. I can honestly say I’ve never seen a police department offer drive-thru service before.
I’d sleep better knowing the fire department still makes house calls.

As we neared Birmingham, the skies opened several times, cooling the thousands of longhaulers and offering us numerous opportunities to sell drying towels and instant detailer. Despite their best efforts, the inhabitants of this ’32 will still be needing us to dry off the parts their umbrella doesn’t reach.
Yep, we can fix that.

Our destination for the day, Birmingham Race Course, held high hopes for many of the Tourers. That was, until they found out it was a dog race track, not a car race track. But, it didn’t seem to hold the crowds back.
If you look close, you might recognize the tall guy in the center that’s John Moss, retired Manager, Special Vehicles for General Motors.

Think of it as the skunkworks for bow-tie guys.
Now that’s a dedicated car guy even after retiring he’s out pressing the flesh and listening to enthusiasts.

Our Road Divas, Thelma and Louise, are always on the lookout for additional Divas-in-Training. Looks like they found another to add to their growing, exclusive, club.

Amidst all the hot rods, street rods and performance vehicles, we found a significant one an American-made, supercharged straight-8 convertible. Know what it is?

Yep, it’s an Auburn Cord 851 Boattail Speedster. Great looking hood ornament, too.
Now that’s style!

With more rain threatening, we made an early appearance on stage to give away the day’s prizes for the large crowd,
and headed for the hotel to rest up. Tomorrow’s drive is the longest of the Tour, and promises more great scenery, wonderful photo opportunities, and the chance to see more of our great country.
Make sure you check back and see all the fun we’re having.
Your humble and obedient servant,
Forrest Tosie
