Power Tour 2007
Introduction

As I grow older, I grow wiser. Just ask my wife — she’s always telling me I’m a wise guy. That’s some compliment, huh?

The folks at Hot Rod have grown wiser, too — they’ve decided to try still another route for the Power Tour. “Variety is the spice of life,” they say. Or maybe it’s “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.” I can never remember. Regardless, we’re doing the latest, greatest dance this year. It’s called, “The Midwest Shuffle.”

Here’s how it goes: We shuffle off to Lincoln (as in Nebraska), swing down to Kansas City, streak over to St Louis, limbo our way to Louisville, disco up to Columbus, sashay for Pontiac, and finally prance all the way to Youngstown.

Sounds like fun, huh? To make the trip, I’m once again calling upon our tried and true heavyweight, the widely-recognized and universally-loved ’59 Sedan Delivery. It’s done the Tour several times, including last year, when I stopped in the desert for this breathtaking photo.

Since variety is the spice of life, though, I’ve decided to bring another cool car from the stable. Way back on 2000, I cruised the Tour in our beautiful 2001 Inferno Red PT Cruiser. Gorgeous car, but lacking a little in the horsepower department.

Thanks to our friends at Metalcrafters, Daimler Chrysler’s prototype builders, we found a way to shoehorn 3.8 liters of V6 under the hood.

And the folks at Chrysler said it couldn’t be done.

Ha! Just to make it a little more interesting, they cloaked it in flamed black paint, and converted the body to a panel van.

With some Chip Foose-designed 20-inch wheels, I’m waiting for the chance to really stretch its legs.

I’m brushing up on all my Midwest terms, and starting to prepare my body for the rigors of Power Touring. I hope you’ll do the same, too, and join in on the fun — even if it’s only for a day or two.

Because you’re never too old to rock and roll.

Your humble and obedient servant,

Forrest Tosie
