Power Tour 2007
Sunday, June 4
Albuquerque, NM to Elk City, OK

“Going, Going, Gone”

The Indian Reservations in New Mexico have found a new way to get people into their casinos. . .

In Vegas, they offer cheap buffets. Go figure.

Last night we said goodbye to Swantje Eibach. She’s got important business at the local mall. We think it may be that she wanted to get a new cell phone fitted, but we’re not sure, and we didn’t ask.

Swantje wasn’t the only one to hit the road last night. Gary had trailer problems and decided to turn back for home with the Vista-Cruiser in tow. We’re going to miss him. In his own unique way, he contributed more to our web coverage than he’ll ever know. He vows to return next year.

As you may have noticed, the front end of our Mothers® PT Cruiser has quite a few aesthetic improvements thanks to our friends at Metalcrafters/TGF — a prototype air dam and smoothed, painted bumpers. . .

The lead Power Tour van. . .

The tour pulls out of Albuquerque, New Mexico and heads toward the flatlands of the Texas panhandle. . .

This guy did all his custom grillwork himself. All it took was a few hours, a sledge hammer and a case of Colt 45 malt liquor. . .

The gas stop at Santa Rosa, New Mexico. . .

“It was unbelievable. First I heard this weird, high-pitched shriek, then suddenly a red-nosed reindeer came plunging out of the sky — feet first! If it wasn’t for that darned U-Haul, there would be a crater in the concrete 12-feet deep. . .”

The Demolition Dart seems right at home in front of the Cadillac Ranch. . .

King of the Curmudgeons, Forrest Tosie. . .

Professional Car Sitter, Ken Holland. . .

The Elk City, Oklahoma cruise night stop. . .

The PT “Turbo” Cruiser. . .

Chrysler’s Panel Cruiser sedan delivery concept car. Notice the lack of rear doors and windows. In the background is the GT Cruiser concept. . .

I’ve see quite a few Chevrolet Bel Airs on the Power Tour, but none as “horizontally challenged” as this one. . .

A Dodge Challenger R/T Convertible. Not your average, run-of-the-mill muscle car. . .

What a day! We’ve lost two traveling companions and the Vista-Cruiser. But not to worry, Forrest and I will stay with you to the end. Well, Forrest will. I finish my half of the Mothers® Power Tour coverage tomorrow. But I won’t leave just yet. Forrest and I have a little TCB with the King, if you know what I mean.
