“No Rest for the Wicked”
Now that Ken is finally out of town (I put him on the shuttle myself, wishing him a safe flight and lots of sleep), I’m ready to do what I do best have fun!

Today’s a day off. It’s the first time Hot Rod has given a Power Tour time to rest and relax, along with fixing anything which may have broken. I just hope lots of the Tour dudes are out in the Station Casino parking lots using swell Mothers® products to clean their cars, trucks, and the occasional Isetta.
This one’s a 1957, which must have been a good year, since that’s when I was born. Seems as though Chevrolet had a good car or two that year, but I can’t seem to remember, dedicated Ford guy that I am.

After yesterday’s fiasco, folks started to complain about the Hot Dogs by Floyd car terrorizing the neighborhood (What, you didn’t read about Jack getting into mischief? Just check o ut some of these pictures).

It got really bad when Jack drove up on the dyno. . .
. . . and spun up a whopping 27 grams of fat (Oops. Never mind, that was my trip to the ice cream store).

We ended up finding a sweet, ’65 Mustang 2+2 to race, although he lost control in some water and wrecked Jack bad. I learned those words from watching NASCAR races on TV.

Then, the folks at BFG decided to take some monster tires and flatten Jack. Thanks to some great traction. . .
. . . he escaped by the skin of his teeth.

Jack begged and pleaded for more power. He’s leaning towards this 426 Hemi, though I’m trying to talk him into a Ford motor.

Anyway, today is a day off. Relax. Rejuvenate ourselves. Spend lots of money in the casino, they said. I decide to take a stroll around the parking lot nearest the hotel entrance before looking for a nice 4 course lunch. I see Gray Baskerville standing in the lot next to an old Fairlane, drooling. Must have been a late night, I think. Come to find out, Gray just returned from a ride in this original 1964 Thunderbolt and is salivating at the chance to ride in it again.

This is the first white Thunderbolt produced, and the 12th overall. It’s original down to the aluminum front bumper, radio/heater delete, and fiberglass front end. What a car. And it’s going all the way.

What a day for Ford heaven. What could be better? The walk back to the front door has me passing the Summitt Racing SN95 Mustang, which is stuffed with 525 cubic inches of motor, and a Paxton Novi 2000 Supercharger. Word has it the car loafs at 130 mph. Some folks have all the luck. It must really need that 6 point roll bar.
While wiping MY drool off it, the lucky keepers of the ’Stang show up. I guess they’re used to the drool, because they don’t even object to it. We get to talking (okay, they’re listening, I’m begging, pleading and whining all of which I learned from my children) and the agree to let me pilot this monster on the leg from Saint Louis to Louisville day after tomorrow.
And all it costs is a bottle of wax (at least that’s the story I’m sticking too. Expense reports ARE cast in Jello, aren’t they?).
Walking 10 feet off the ground, and giddy with excitement, I near walk over Ray Flugger of Flowmaster fame. Ray is out preparing to clean his pristine ’63 Mercury Comet convertible in preparation for a Hot Rod Magazine photo shoot. In keeping with my desire to perform at least one good deed a day (and no, being gone from home is NOT a good deed), I offer to help Ray.
With its flawless flip flop purple/blue paint, boosted by Mothers® great Sealer and Glaze, and then Natural Formula Wax, the Comet is a site to behold. I fall over when Ray tells me the appraised value of the car, and treat it with even more tender loving care than normal.
Tomorrow should be a great day. We head to Saint Louis, I get to see my wife and children, and I’m one day closer to a drive of my dreams.
Life is good. . .
