Power Tour 2007
Wednesday, May 14
Overland Park, KA to Forest Park; St. Louis, MO

It seemed like a strange request, but you can never be too careful when it comes to. . .

. . . bathtub elevation? Oh alright, I’ll do it for the sake of personal safety. First I borrowed a hand-held GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) receiver to determine my exact elevation. 426 feet.

Then I used a series of sophisticated triangulation formulas to deduce the floor level height of my second story motel room. 12 feet, 6 inches. Finally I measured the distance from the top of the tub’s fill line to the floor of my room. 26 inches. Total distance from tub to sea level — 440 feet, 8 inches. That’s well within the 5% guidelines established by state and federal government (except in California were tougher tub restrictions do apply). Whew!

Rumor has it that this Chevy Sedan Delivery got its front fender crushed at the start of this year’s Power Tour. As you can see, the crumpled fender received the highly prized “BART!!” award from Hot Rod Magazine (it also won the coveted “Best BLAP!!” as well as the “Triple BORK!!“).

The Sunbeam Tiger — beloved car of Maxwell Smart, Secret Agent 86.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference. When John Cobb, publisher of Petersen’s Super Street magazine, couldn’t get his car started he enlisted the aid of Mothers® Mr. Mechanic, Gary Turnau. After a little electrical detective work, Gary isolated the problem — a loose negative battery terminal.

The Power Tour is on the move again. This time it’s heading straight for the rolling hills of Missouri.

We spot this ’41 Chevy at one of the gas stops. It’s absolutely perfect.

“The hunter, sensing his prey’s weakness, moves quickly to its blind spot. There he waits patiently, ready to pounce. . . ” One of the Power Tour support trucks gets a speeding ticket just outside Warrenton, Missouri.

This classic Chevrolet has been with the Power Tour since the Petersen kick-off party in Los Angeles, California

Today’s report closes with a bit of high tech magic. We’ve taken three pictures (all shot from the top of Hot Rod Magazine’s big rig) and digitally combined them into a single, panoramic image.

As you can see, the St. Louis cruise night was a huge success.

Next stop — Springfield, Illinois. Home of Abraham Lincoln and Rock n’ Roll Hardees.
