“Short And Sweet”
Awoke in beautiful Springfield, IL, known for Abraham Lincoln, and, of course, great stop on Power Tour. Many state troopers in presence. Are they here to escort
us out of town, or run us out?
After our dinner meeting last evening with Savas, we are ready to go at 9:00 AM, before the Power Tourers have even had their driver’s meeting.
There are many new cars today, amongst them a clapped out 1966 Oldsmobile 98 painted bright yellow with what appears to be a paint roller. I’ll suggest he
use another wax brand on it.
Depart ten minutes behind Gene in the Centerforce El Camino. Never see him again. Run with the Kicker Dodge Pick-up, which possesses a Paxton blower.
We run 80+ MPH all the way. Splitfire guy in 1996 Cobra pulls up along side. So slow even the Kicker truck outruns him.
Arrive in Lansing, IL at airport. We have 130,000 square feet on concrete used to park planes. It is wet from rain. Lorin concerned about water Lansing
mayor responds by putting helicopter in air at $225 per hour to dry the pad. Must be an affluent town. Pad now dry.
I seek out faucet to wash Way Cool Mothers® Vortech Mustang. Airport Manager opens hanger so I can wash
in privacy. Wash Callaway, too. We look nicer! Pull car out to designated spot, and cover. Still cloudy. Rain? I hope not.
Lorin walking around in ratty leather jacket. I let her know we have just the stuff for her, since she’s into leather. Her eyes sparkle. Give her Leather
Cleaner and Conditioner. Suggest she look for ads in Whip and Chain Weekly, which is not a Petersen publication.

2:00 PM locals start arriving. This is bad since there is a 5:00 PM start. Cadets from regional police training academy are providing support and enforcement.
They keep local undesirables on other side of rope. It is nice to be top banana.

Eat dinner in airport restaurant, which is where local pilots go to swap lies. Car guys fit right in. Have wonderful chicken sandwich first non-red meat
since Tour started. Go back to car. Tour arrives in one hour, so I again SHOWTIME the Way Cool Mothers® Vortech
Mustang. Others will be way jealous.
Tour arrives to DJ playing music. Many locals. Many cars. Many kids. Gets cold. Gets real cold. Gets REALLY cold. Have shorts on. Get free hot dog, chips and
soda one only, please. Thanks Splitfire. 8:30 PM decide is cold enough, and I have paid my dues for day. I leave. Callaway follows. Nice to know who is a
leader, and who is a follower.
Go to room phone does not work. Staff cannot find another. Tell them to place phone calls for me, then, and not to charge me for them. They find phone quick.
Must leave 6:00 AM tomorrow for Detroit, for what Savas professes to be party to end all Detroit will bring several thousand high quality cars, including
some from Big Three. Can’t wait.
